IN CASE OF FIRE

Creating space and ease of orientation are issues in design that are highly relevant to our daily lives, but its importance is often overlooked. Only in emergency situations will one see the need of clear information and direction. Hence, a team of designers and architects from the Singapore Creative Network in UK has created an installation to highlight the significant role of such design in our daily life.

By super-sizing a fire exit sign in the venue, theyhave created a dialogic interplay of scale versus function, drawing viewers’ attention to information and directional signs within the exhibition space and questioning the role and the significance ofinformation design in a broader context.

This concept was brought together by the following members from the network:

David Lee is a recipient of many design awards, such as the coveted Singapore Young Designers Award in both 1997 and 1998, and more recently, a Commendation Award in last year’s Design and Art Direction (D&AD) Global Student Awards. He has worked on many design projects with clients like Ministry of Education (Singapore),
National University of Singapore Dance Ensemble and Cake Theatrical Productions (Singapore). Currently, David works as a graphic designer for The Future Laboratory, Europe’s leading trend forecasting andc onsumer behaviour analysis company.

Vince Ong is a student at the Architectural Association London. He is especially interested in the experiential quality of architecture and seeks to develop his own architectural language through cross-disciplinary experimentation. Well aware of the fact that architecture is never a "one-man" show, he wishes to develop symbiotic working relationships with his peers from various fields; pushing boundaries and creating new experiences. Vince is also an associateto DesignSingapore Council.v.choons@gmail.com
